Frequently asked questions
How often are the prices on this page updated?
We re-read the official source several times a day and republish what it says about this station. The pill at the top of the page shows when this station was last checked; “unchanged since” shows when its price last moved. A row is written into the history only when a price actually changes, so a long flat stretch means the price genuinely did not move. In New South Wales a retailer must report a price change to FuelCheck as it happens, so this feed is close to real time.
Where do these prices come from?
From the official source for this market (New South Wales): NSW FuelCheck open data (Transport for NSW, CC BY 4.0). We do not set prices and we do not read them at the pump: station by station, we republish what that source publishes. FuelCheck is run by Transport for NSW and published as open data under CC BY 4.0.
What does fuel cost at APCO Wagga Wagga right now?
The prices this station reports at the moment are: Premium 95 2.115 AUD/L, E10 2.015 AUD/L, Unleaded 91 2.035 AUD/L, Premium 98 2.204 AUD/L. Every figure on this page carries the name of the fuel it belongs to, so there is no price here without its fuel next to it.
How do I read the colours on the map?
The map colours every station by the price of a single fuel, Unleaded 91 here, so that the comparison is like for like. The legend under the map reads “Cheap”, “Average”, “Expensive”: green marks the cheapest third of the stations currently loaded on the map, amber the middle third, red the most expensive third, and grey means that station has no fresh price. The thresholds are recomputed from the stations on screen, so they follow the market instead of a fixed price.
Why do two stations a few kilometres apart charge different prices?
Because in this market (New South Wales) each operator sets its own pump price. The tax on a litre is the same for everyone, so what is left to differ is the wholesale price the site paid, its costs and its volume, the brand, and how much competition there is within driving distance. The price card measures both gaps for you: one against the average of the stations around this one, the other against the average of every station we track in this market.
How do I use this page to spend less?
Open “Nearby stations”, tap the chip for the fuel you actually use, then sort by “Cheapest”. The list then shows every station we track within 5 km of this one, priced on that one fuel and with the distance to it, so you can judge whether a cheaper price is worth the detour. The area comparison on the price card says in one line whether this station sits above or below its neighbours. We promise no saving: the page only shows you the spread that is already there.
Can I see how the price moved over time?
Yes. “Price history” plots this station over 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, 6 months or the whole record, and “All-Time Statistics” gives the highest, the lowest and the average price, each with the date it was recorded. Entries exist only for the moments when the price changed. If you switch the page to euro or dollar, every historical point is converted with the exchange rate of its own day, not with today’s rate.
Are these the exact prices I will pay, and may I reuse the data?
Prices are indicative and may differ at the pump: an operator can change a price between two of our reads, and a feed can arrive late. Treat the page as a comparison tool, not as a receipt. The same data is available for this station as JSON, extended JSON and Markdown (the links are in the footer), and any reuse must credit fuel-prices.eu and Transport for NSW (FuelCheck), CC BY 4.0.
